Today we read two different versions of The Little Drummer Boy. We compared and contrasted the versions. Additionally we listened to the song with the lights off! To top it off and make an emotional and spiritual connection, we wrote a list of what we would give Jesus. We then shared our lists! Brought a tear to my eye!
Hello! Wow! Can you feel the excitement in the air? It's a whirlwind of bliss and joy!
This past week we created a Christmas Cookbook as part of a gift for our parents! Students wrote recipes of their favorite Christmas food. I typed them up and had students create the cover page, about the author page, and the back jacket! They are so excited to give these to their parents!
This picture was added at the end of our cookbook!
Once every two to three weeks we Skype! Fortunately, we are blessed with an awesome partnership with the school district. One of the staff members-a Spanish Teacher allots some of her instruction time to Skype with us. Her kiddos are able to practice and brush up on their skills by talking to us via Skype in Spanish!
All of us benefit and we also strengthen our bonds with other students in the district!
It's snowing here in northeast Wisconsin! 4-7 inches by tomorrow!!!
Last week Friday we integrated dice into math lesson! I gave each students a set of dice and they needed to reach 50 before their opponent. One person would print numbers (counting by 1) while the other person rolled the dice trying to roll doubles. Once he/she rolled doubles they needed to switch rolls. The first person to print his/her numbers to 50 was the winner!! DOUBLES!!!
Today we practiced our words-Word Work in shaving cream! WOW, our are desks clean and our room has a fresh smell! What a difference practicing words with sensory integration makes!
Today was our 50th Day of School! What a celebration we had:
*writing 50 words
*enjoying Root Beer floats
*watching cartoons from 1050's
*hulla hooping
*Hand Jive Fun
*writing about what we want 50 of and why
*Bubble Gum blowing contest
*Twisting n Shouting!
Fridays are the days one of my students is able to be a Super Reader and bring in a Me Bag.
He/she chooses a picture book to read to the class. Additionally, he/she chooses non-editable items to put in an Estimation Jar. Finally, he/she puts 5 items in the Me Bag. Students are given 3 clues about each item, guesses are heard, and then the item is revealed. Thorough this activity, many Speaking/Listening Common Core Standards are met.
Happy Thursday!
Are your kiddos excited about tomorrow? Wow, are my 2nd Graders eager and buzzing! One would think it's the day before summer break. :)
Yesterday, we walked to the public library. The librarian read a few books with us, did a craft, and then we participated in a listening game! I was so impressed with her enthusiasm and energy! Indeed a great resource for our community!
Today many of us finished our final draft of our Dear God letters. (I am, as most of you know, a private religious teacher :) ) Many were also able to complete their illustration. We are having these made into a hard cover Student Treasure book. This is a wonderful company that publishes hard cover book editions of books that teachers submit to them. Many of my students have ordered their own copies and of course I want to order one for me, our library, the principal, etc.
