How Quickly Does Soil Settle in Water??

We are 5 lessons into our Soils Kit.  Last week we got samples of humus, clay, and sand and adding water to see how quickly the soil components would settle in water.  The clay instantly dropped to the bottom of the test tube, the humus took a while and the sand dropped readily too.  We then then reexamined the vials today and noticed that the sand had a fine layer of clay on top of it.  Why?  Sand naturally has tiny amounts of clay in it.  Interesting.  So, now we ask why are there puddles in certain field?  What might that soil contain?  What soil types do we have in our back yards, school, or at our neighbors?  Next we get three mystery mixtures and have to figure out what they are...results are coming.

To these vials, we added extra ingredients as variables; can you figure out what we added?

Working on Our School's Vocation Fair

Today we started our posters for our upcoming Vocation Fair-our field-Education.  We listed numerous jobs in education and then my kiddos voted what job they wanted to research.  School bus driver, nurse, teacher, librarian, secretary, liason, etc.  They are very excited and are eager to bring in props and present their vocation to our school.

Classic Dinner Auction!

We are now in the 4th Quarter of School!  And you?

Today was our school's annual Classic Dinner Auction!  Because we are a private, independent, religious school, we host charity drives and fundraisers throughout the year!  This auction is our biggest fundraiser and alluring event of the year!  This morning a wonderful team of parents and teachers set-up the tables and facility for today/tonight's auction!

Each classroom is in charge of picking a basket theme and then collecting items for the basket.
This year our theme was:  Hot and Cold!

Here is a picture of our completed basket displayed:
