Summer School is On!

Summer School is on.  6 weeks long-2 week sessions.  Many classes are offered-sewing, survival skills, active games, fishing, community trips, to mine-Technology Time and Prezi. I would love to sign up for some of the classes; can I teach and attend at the same time?  In my day, summer school meant academics needed touching up on.
Here are some of the sites I have shared with my 18 summer school kiddos:

www.freeonline.games.com
www.coolmath-games.com
www.brickbuildinggame.com
pbskids.org
www.highlightskids.com/hidden-pictures
thisissand.com

Thankfully, class is only 90 minutes long, we are always trying to exceed progress from previous days challenges and create and build online works of art that excel yesterday's creations.

Below are two of my favorite teacher poems:

Working in the Gardens

WOW...first time since I have been teaching that we have been in the school this late.

Here are some pictures of us working in our school parish gardens.  Grade K-5 went to our gardens for service work.  We picked rocks, pulled weeds, planted, and found many pet rocks (and of course bugs, toads, etc.).

Getting Seeds Ready!

On Monday we work at our school's parish garden!  Yes, we will be knee deep in garden life.  Today we started the prep work by getting Kohlrabi seed strips ready.

Taking Science Outside!

Happy Wednesday to YOU!

Last week we started our unit on energy!  How ironic that we had a HEAT/SOLAR energy wave.  It went from 50 degrees to a balmy 82.  SO, we took our science lessons outside!  We saw first hand how black colors absorb heat as the temperature in the pan that was painted black soared!!!

Here we are taking notes in our science logs!

Here is a great interactive website:  Energystar

Big Band Concert Time!

Our spring concert was last night!!!  "BRAVO!!!  GREAT JOB!!!  WONDERFUL WORK!!!"  These were all comments I heard from viewers of our show!

My classroom sang songs like: Rock Around The Clock, Hounddog, Twist, etc.  WOW could they twirl each other!!!

My part-singing with the art teacher to the song-Do Your Ears Hang Low? :-)

Planting A Cucumber Seed

HELLO!
Last week we planted cucumber seeds in humus, clay, and sand.  We predicted what the seeds would grow in and what type of environment they would grow the best in.  Here are pictures of the growth in 3 days:

The seeds have taken off in all three mediums.  I must admit, I was surprised at the results.

We also discussed the role of roots and if you look closely at the vials, you can see the roots.

We were surprised with the growth that occurred in three days.

Smiles,
